Sebastian Grube

My name is Sebastian Grube and I am a Target Margin summer intern.

I was born and raised in Germany. Now, I am studying at New York University Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Currently I am aiming at a double major in music and theater. The arts in general are my passion, especially the performing arts such as theater, music and dance. I hope to work as a performer or director later and combine all three of them constantly, because I think that neither form would be whole without the others.

Those passions are the reason that brought me to New York City this summer. My primary reason to come here was the RealAD show, a musical for the Class of 2019 on our campus to let them know that they are not alone in the struggles of their freshman year. If you are familiar with it, the NYU New York campus has the Reality Show – the mother of our RealAD show. Everyone in the cast contributes material to the show. With help from our production team, we write songs and scenes that show the core emotions and struggles one fights with as a freshman. So, that’s one thing I’m doing here in the Big Apple, and the other one is my internship with this amazing theater company called Target Margin Theater. I decided to intern here, because additionally to practical skills in acting, music and dance, I wanted to gain administrative skills that might enable me to work outside the realms of a performer or director. Therefore, I decided to try for a marketing internship here at TMT.

After reading TMT’s mission, I was very interested in interning with them. What really made me sure that this is the place to be was my interview with Sarah and Moe. Both of them were extremely kind and I knew that I will have a good time in the office. This feeling was to be confirmed upon stepping through the door of the office. What I love about the TMT office is the atmosphere. Everyone is kind and friendly to one another. There are always interesting conversations floating around in the air and no one is too serious. It is a lot of fun working here and I am amazed by the amount of collaboration in the office. Nothing goes out without another person reading it over and giving their input, including us interns. It is always good to know that one’s opinion is valued. Even though I haven’t been here for long and I don’t have nearly as much experience as everyone else, I get asked what I think on this or that from time to time. It’s a great feeling. Another thing that just came to my mind is the familiarity here at the office and in the organization as a whole. All communication that happens feels like everyone is in a circle of friends and there are no stupid questions to be asked here.

Overall, I had a great time with TMT so far. I loved watching the last productions of the Stein Lab 2.0 and I am gaining a lot of new experiences in the office.

Have a great time,

Sebastian
