Target Margin Theater, with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, is excited to continue our STUDIO SPACE PROGRAM this year.

The program’s goal is simple – to lift adventurous artists in our field! TMT will provide up to 100 hours of FREE rehearsal space to theater artists so they can delve deep into an exploratory process without the stress and financial burden of renting a studio. We want to support creative experimentation with the hope that generative artists may continue to push the boundaries of what is possible inside a theater.

We are no longer accepting reservations at this time. Since space and time are limited, we unfortunately cannot accommodate all requests. Please check back in in 2025 for the next iteration of the Studio Space Program. Thank you for your time and patience as we try to maximize this resource.

What is a Target Margin’s STUDIO SPACE PROGRAM?

  • The Target Margin’s Studio Space Program provides companies or individual artists up to 100 hours of free rehearsal space at TMT to developing their performance-based work.
  • Space will be offered on a first come, first served basis (depending on availability).
  • Over the course of the program, we hope to be able to provide more than 1,000 hours of free space in total to NYC artists.
  • The program is offered for rehearsal time only, not workshop showings or performances.
  • The program is not able to support individuals or groups looking for a one-off reservation or a rehearsal room for few hours at this time. Participants must commit to using at least 50 hours of studio time within the 3 month period of when it is active.

Who is the program for?

  • The program was designed for companies and/or artists who need or would benefit from a significant amount of time in a rehearsal space. You could be developing an established project or experimenting with a new idea or exploring your creative process – anything!
  • All performance-based artists who can commit to using at least 50 hours of rehearsal space are encouraged to fill out the intake form.

Where is it?

  • Target Margin Theater is located at 232 52nd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
  • We have a large street level theater space that is wheelchair accessible and two rehearsal studios on the 2nd floor.
  • Photos of our spaces and dimensions can be found here.

When is it?

  • We hope to have another iteration of the Studio Space Program in 2025. Stay in the loop in the coming months for more updates.
  • Space will be reserved for artists in advance on a first come, first served basis. We will take into consideration accessibility needs, scheduling, and availability of the theater/studios.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I reserve free Studio Space?
We are no longer accepting reservations for the Studio Space Program. Check back in in 2025!

2. I won’t be able to fill out the form at the time it goes live, can I do it later?
Of course! However, please note that space is given on a first come first serve basis.

3. How can I best prepare my form responses for when it goes live?
The Studio Space Program request form requires very little information, but we recommend being as specific with your time and date requests as possible.

4. I filled out a request, why didn’t I receive free space?
We wish we could provide free space to all our artists that need it! The program is funded by a grant from NYSCA and covers 1000 hours of free rehearsal space for artists. We receive many more requests than we can accommodate for the program.

5. I missed this round of free space, what can I do?
This program is finished for the year of 2024. Join our mailing list and follow us on social media to stay in the loop for updates in 2025.
